My background is in administrative assisting. According to one former boss, I'm "the duct tape and the super glue." I move, I groove, I shake, and hopefully when I'm done, the task at hand is complete to everyone's satisfaction.
My passion is the Volvo Ocean Race. During the 2001-2002 VOR, I was working for an ASSA ABLOY Group company, and had the unenviable task of figuring out a way to convince die-hard NASCAR and NFL fans, living in Nevada, to be interested in a yacht race that didn't even come within 2,000 miles of us. ;) I spent the time leading up to the North American stopovers being a cheerleader, following the race around the world from my desk.
My job at the stopovers was basically coordinating travel schedules, hotel rooms, meeting rooms and times, and meals and activities in Miami and in Baltimore for over 300 group employees and guests from around the world.
My current situation is recycling. I run the recycling chunk of the Environmental Stewardship Program at the University of Kansas. (recycle.ku.edu) I plan on using the tuition assistance program at KU to complete a degree in Environmental Studies.
So I have three things:
- A background in making things work, administratively.
- A passion for the VOR.
- An opportunity to use my current position to advance my education, AND in a growing and exciting field.
